UConn selected as 4 seed in West Region

It’s March and the 2023 NCAA Tournament bracket has been released. The UConn Huskies have been named a No. 4 seed in the West Region. They’ll play Rick Pitino’s No. 13 seeded Iona Gaels in Albany, NY, the 74th best team in the country according to KenPom. The Gales are The predictive ratings site has the Huskies with an 80% chance to win, expecting a 77-68 game.

If they win, they’ll play the winner of No. 5 St. Mary’s vs. No. 12 VCU. The Gaels have been a peculiar team all year, as metrics darlings (Kenpom No. 11) despite their three losses to teams outside the top 100. VCU was the single squad that made it out of an unusually weak Atlantic 10. Of all the teams in UConn’s quad, the Huskies have the most losses with eight, one more than every other team.

No. 1 Kansas and No. 2 UCLA are the top two teams in the West bracket in Las Vegas, NV, but they’ll have to get there first. Their chance will come this Friday at 4:30 p.m. where the journey to Houston, TX begins.
