Randy Edsall and his staff have their fourth commitment for the class of 2018 in Hartford running back Khyon Gillespie, who plays running back and defensive back for Capital Prep.
"I committed to UConn because of how family-oriented it is," he told Storrs Central. "They were welcoming towards my family and I. I also liked how highly Coach Edsall spoke of me... He also didn't say anything bout me redshirting or anything like that. He just told me that I'll be in the run for a starting spot."
Gillespie becomes the third in-state commitment for the Huskies, joining linebackers Kevon Jones and Dillon Harris, and the first offensive player to commit to the Huskies for 2018.
The playmaking running back camped at UConn last weekend and received an offer. He was kind enough to speak with Storrs Central about his visit to campus and experience at the camp. Gillespie also shared that he would be back today, and now he's committed after another meeting with the staff.
"My favorite part of the trip was when Coach Terry told me what can possibly happen with my coming here," he shared. "He just said I could potentially go to the NFL because look back at all the success they had in the past with NFL running backs and I could be next."
According to MaxPreps, Gillespie rushed for 1750 yards and 22 touchdowns while also catching 14 passes for 280 yards and two more scores. He could play offense or defense for the Huskies, as he worked out on both sides of the ball at last week's camp.
On Thursday, UConn received a commitment from Delaware defensive back Malik Banks, who also attended the same camp session.
