Delaware DB Malik Banks Announces His Commitment to UConn

Statement from Malik Banks:

I thank the lord every day to be blessed to be able to play this game of football and to give his name glory. On top of that to be able to play Division 1 football.

I want to thank my current and former coaches from baseball to track to football who all seen the potential in me to push me to new heights. I want to thank my parents for never giving up on me and doing their best to keep me on the right track in life. I am very humbled by this experience and thank everybody who supported me through this process. I am excited and very proud to announce that I have chosen to further my athletic and academic careers at the University of Connecticut.

The UConn Huskies have their third verbal commitment for the class of 2018 in Malik Banks, a cornerback from Howard High in Wilmington, Delaware.

Banks received his offer from the Husky staff on June 10 after attending a camp, it was his first FBS offer.

"Shortly after Coach Edsall offered me they took me on a tour of the football facilities," Banks told Storrs Central. "The atmosphere and the coaches made me feel at home."

Banks made the decision to commit to UConn and then canceled a visit with a regional competitor.

"I committed to UConn mainly because the love and attention they showed me," Banks said. "I called Coach Edsall today around 11:45 and told him that me and my family decided to cancel my Boston College trip to commit to UConn."

The 6-foot-2 prospect will be playing safety for the Huskies. He's also working on recruiting some of his friends as well.

"Two of my other boys (Amod john & Shawn Bowman) are still in the recruiting process so I'm not sure if they would come to UConn but I encourage them everyday to come join me in Connecticut."

Banks joins Connecticut linebackers Dillon Harris and Kevon Jones on UConn's commitment list for the class of 2018. The staff is expecting more to come following the series of camps which kicked off this past weekend.
