UConn offers top in-state sophomore

With how fast the recruiting process has sped itself up in recent years, it definitely is not too early to check on a sophomore in-state player who has the potential to become a national level recruit. Defensive end Christian Wilkins of Suffield (Conn.) Academy already has three offers, including one from UConn, and has taken two visits to check out the program.
"Recruiting is going pretty well," said Wilkins, who has offers from UConn, Boston College and Virginia. "I hope to get a few more offers in the upcoming months. Florida has shown a lot of interest and they are closing in."

Wilkins also believes that Penn State, Georgia Tech, Maryland and Miami may be close to offering.
Over the course of the last year, the big sophomore found the time to take visits to both UConn and Boston College. He discussed his visits to UConn.
"I went in the spring last year and I went to a game against Pitt," said Wilkins, who is 6-foot-4 and 285 pounds. "It was nice. It was nice getting a feel for how college practices and games are run and the level of competition."
His visits gave him the opportunity to check out the UConn coaching staff in action.
"I like their attitude, how serious they take their jobs and how great they want their team to be," he said.
Wilkins hopes to check out a few other schools this year, but that is still a work in progress.
"I'm going to take as many visits as I can," said Wilkins. "I just want to visit a lot to see and get a feel for many different types of schools and see what they have to offer both academically and athletically."
During his sophomore season, Wilkins finished with approximately 60 tackles, 18 tackles for a loss and six sacks, while adding 12 receptions for 210 yards and two touchdowns at tight end.
"I finished real strong and most importantly we finished a special undefeated season as New England Super Bowl camps," said Wilkins. "I got stronger and now I'm a student of the game, so I just learned from my mistakes. That has helped with my success."
