UConn Offense Will Benefit From a Youth Movement

After Monday's open practice, head coach Randy Edsall shared some thoughts on where the offense stands and which players are in line for bigger roles.

He mentions two young receivers, Quayvon Skanes and Keyion Dixon, discussing how they have improved since the spring. He also provides updates on 2017 signee Garrison Burnett and Tyler Davis while also explaining why he’s excited to get Donovan Williams on the field as a wide receiver.

We also spoke with Dixon, a 2016 signee from Glastonbury, about how practice has been going with the new system.

Another young up-and-comer is redshirt freshman running back Nate Hopkins, who is competing to be the No. 2 back. Edsall notes that while Hopkins has improved since the spring, he still needs to work on being a better pass-catcher out of the backfield.

Continuing with the running backs, Edsall lists what he likes about Arkeel Newsome, namely his agility and competitiveness. He makes the point that Newsome alone cannot carry the offense, but expects him to be a weapon for the Huskies.

Newsome also had a chance to share his thoughts on how camp was going in the early stages.
