UConn MBB Hires Raphael Chillious for Assistant Coaching Vacancy

Former Washington assistant coach Raphael Chillious is expected to join Kevin Ollie and the UConn men’s basketball staff, according to multiple sources. The school has not confirmed the hiring.

UConn had an opening on the staff after longtime assistant and associate head coach Glen Miller left on Saturday. The Huskies are coming off their first losing campaign in 30 years by finishing at 16-17.

In addition to Miller leaving, the program also will lose junior-to-be Steve Enoch, who announced late last week he plans to transfer. Enoch’s decision was reportedly related to playing time. The program also dismissed assistant strength and conditioning coach Travis Illian. On Tuesday afternoon, rising sophomore Vance Jackson also announced his intention to transfer.

In Chillious, UConn adds a gifted recruiter who had been part of Lorenzo Romar’s staff at Washington since 2009. He spent this past season as the associate head coach of the other Huskies.

Chillious was vital in piecing together Washington’s No. 7-ranked class in 2015 along with landing McDonald’s All-American Markelle Fultz, who is expected to be a NBA lottery pick this June, for the class of 2016.

His prior stops include spending a year on Jay Wright’s staff at Villanova. Chillious also served as Nike's business manager for Elite Youth Basketball in Beaverton, Ore., and was the head coach and co-athletic director at South Kent (Conn.) School from 2003-08.
