Montgomery originally committed and signed with Charlotte out of high school as a member of the 2024 recruiting class from St. Frances Academy in Maryland. He spent one season with the 49ers, where he appeared in four games and ran 40 times for 166 yards and one score, while preserving his redshirt.

After that he transferred to UConn last offseason and in his lone year as a Husky, Robinson carried the ball 107 times for 731 yards and eight scores. He will now re-enter the portal with three years of eligibility remaining.
