Lorenzen unlikely for Saturdays game
b>STORRS, Conn. — The original six-to-eight-week diagnosis for quarterback Tyler Lorenzen's broken right foot expired on Friday, drawing into question whether or not it will be Lorenzen or back-ups Cody Endres or Zach Frazer making the start Saturday at Syracuse.

"To me, as we're here today, it's Zach or it's Cody," head coach Randy Edsall said at his weekly press conference Tuesday.
But perhaps the greatest hint of all is that Lorenzen, four days before a possible start, hasn't even begun running.
"That's why I say we take it day-by-day – I just don't know yet," Lorenzen said.
That leaves Endres and Frazer as the potential starting quarterbacks for Saturday, a situation that Edsall admitted he wishes wasn't the case because he'd prefer to have some consistency.
After suffering his second concussion of the season against Rutgers on Oct. 19, Frazer is apparently fully healthy to compete for the Huskies. Endres started the Huskies' last two games – a win over Cincinnati and a loss to West Virginia – but his three interceptions against the Mountaineers have called into question his effectiveness.
"It is what it is," Endres said. "[Edsall] said it's going to be an 'or week' once again and like I said before, that makes us both better. It gives us the chance to go out there and compete and it's what's best for the team."
The decision in practice this week will primarily come down to which quarterback makes the least number of mistakes. Frazer, who started against North Carolina and Rutgers after relieving Lorenzen at Louisville, has also thrown three interceptions this season.
The hope is that the starter will focus on fundamentals and play within his means. All six of Endres' and Frazer's combined interceptions were on passes where the quarterback attempted to do too much.
"That's the biggest thing – to take control of the offense, manage the game, don't turn the ball over, lead your team down to score points, and really, when you get down inside that red zone, do everything that they can to score touchdowns or kick field goals," Edsall said.
MCCLAIN STEPS UP
Replacing Darius Butler at cornerback heading forward will be Robert McClain, who earned the starting nod over Terry Baltimore. Butler suffered a knee injury against West Virginia and projects to miss the remainder of the regular season.
McClain has played in all nine games this season, primarily as a nickelback. He's made 13 tackles thus far and intercepted two passes – both against Cincinnati, with one being returned 28 yards for a touchdown. Baltimore will serve as the nickelback this season; redshirt freshman Gary Wilburn will be the fourth cornerback.
"We expect [McClain] to go in and play as good or better than Darius," Edsall said. "That's the object – when somebody goes down, the next guy at that position, the expectation is for him to go in and play better than the guy that replaces him."
WHO YOU CALLIN' SMOOTH?
Donald Brown said the running backs were tired of hearing from position coach Terry Richardson, a tailback at Syracuse in the early 1990s, that they don't make running backs like they used to. In response, the running backs decided to critique some of Richardson's game tape – including his touchdown celebrations. "There was one time that they were playing Louisville, and he scored a touchdown and leaned against the goalpost in celebration," Brown said, imitating Richardson's sophisticated, cocky look. "That wouldn't fly nowadays."
ORANGE YOU GLAD?
Edsall said he is "not at all" interested in coaching Syracuse anymore, though he declined to say whether or not there was ever a time he would have liked to be the head coach of the Orange. A former quarterback, Edsall was an assistant at Syracuse from 1980 through 1990. His name has surfaced recently as a possible candidate to replace current head coach Greg Robinson, who is speculated to be relieved of his duties at the end of the season. … The 4-2-5 defensive formation, used heavily against Cincinnati and West Virginia in the Huskies' last two games, will be given a rest this week at Syracuse because of the pro-style offense used by the Orange. That means a return to regular action for Greg Lloyd, the linebacker replaced in the quicker package.
