Donovan Clingan commits to UConn

Dan Hurley and his staff have added a big piece to their Class of 2022 recruiting with the commitment of in-state big man Donovan Clingan. The 7-foot-1 center from Bristol Central High School announced his decision Friday night.

Clingan chose UConn over offers from a wide range of schools and after making visits to Michigan, Syracuse, and Ohio State. He becomes the second Class of 2022 commit for Hurley and UConn, joining Corey Floyd Jr., a four-star shooting guard from New Jersey.

Clingan will be the first Connecticut player to join the Huskies since Steve Enoch in the Class of 2015 and potentially marks a breakthrough for the program in in-state recruiting. Once a Connecticut player reaches national prominence as a recruit, recent history suggests they end up at a school besides UConn. Examples include Mustapha Heron, Tremont Waters, and Jaiden Delaire, who ended up at Auburn, LSU, and Stanford, respectively.

Other notable in-state players for the Huskies are Andre Drummond, Tyler Olander, and then we have to go back to Craig Austrie and Doug Wiggins from the classes of 2005 and 2006, respectively, before seeing more in-state scholarship players.
