After a strong start to the season, things are looking pretty good for the UConn men's basketball program. After Thursday night, the future is looking even brighter.
The 25th-ranked Huskies (7-1, 4-1 Big East) added the first piece to their 2022 class on Thursday with the announcement of 6-foot-4 combo guard Corey Floyd, Jr.
The Roselle Catholic star is the 107th-ranked player in the Class of 2022.
Floyd picked UConn over Big East foe Providence and five other finalists: Rutgers, Miami, Wake Forest, Florida, and Auburn. Another Big East school, Villanova, was said to be in the running as well.
UConn will have at least two more openings for 2022, with R.J. Cole, Brendan Adams, and Tyrese Martin all part of the current junior class. One of the main prospects on the Huskies’ radar for 2022 is in-state 7-foot center Donovan Clingan (Ranked no. 47), a junior at New Britain High School.
Hurley and his staff have already put together the eighth-best 2021 class in the nation with the additions of guards Rahsool Diggins (47th) and Jordan Hawkins (46th), along with big man Samson Johnson (78th). UConn has at least one more opening for next season after freshman Javonte Brown entered the transfer portal last week.
UConn returns to the court on Monday with St. John’s coming to town. Sophomore James Bouknight (left elbow) won’t be part of that action since he had elbow surgery on Wednesday and remains out indefinitely. Bouknight was part of Hurley and company’s first true recruiting class at UConn, alongside Jalen Gaffney and Akok Akok.
