The AAU season went into its second week of games and the EYBL traveled to Phoenix this past weekend and several UConn Basketball coaches were out and about staying up to date with their current prospects.

Here’s how they fared in the Arizona showcase.

Betsey had an up and down weekend as his NY Rens squad dropped all four of its games in Phoenix. The guard-forward from Connecticut had a couple strong showings, where he had a nice 14 points in a narrow loss against the NJ Scholars. He was also very efficient during the game, going 56% from the field.

His weekend had its fair share of struggles though, when Betsey shot 0-6 from the floor against Team Takeover with a mere two points off of a couple of free throws.

Every young player has a down week every now and then. Expect Betsey to return sharper than ever when the AAU circuit picks back up in Dallas from May 12-14.

The 6-foot-3 guard from New York has started to heat up during this weekend’s session.

Fland got better each game for the PSA Cardinals and was the driving force for its undefeated weekend in Phoenix.

His first game was a little lackluster as he started with an underwhelming 8 points in a win against Team Durant.

He picked up the pace the next two games, averaging a collective 17 points, 4 rebounds and 2.5 assists.

However, by the end of the third day, Fland caught fire.

Fland was in complete control of the game against Houston Hoops, where he had a fantastic 31 points and 8 rebounds. His squad got the 90-81 win and capped off an incredible weekend.

He improved his AAU season averages to 15.5, 3.8 and 3.

Expect Fland to continue to get better in Dallas.

Abraham was another player who had a solid outing in Phoenix. He averaged just under 9 points and 3 three rebounds on the weekend. More importantly, he was deadly efficient as he was shooting the ball as he shot 58% from the field during his time in the desert.

He outplayed Tyler Betsey when their squads matched up on Saturday. The forward from Virginia had 13 points and 7 rebounds in front of Coach Dan Hurley, helping his Team Takeover defeat Betsey’s New York Rens.

Abraham is currently averaging 7.8 points and 2.1 rebounds over the course of the first two weeks. His athleticism is still on display and will continue to be a 2024 prospect to keep an eye on as he develops.

Anticipate him to keep improving on the AAU circuit.

Howard only recently picked up a UConn offer as of Wednesday and is a new player to the prospect list. The 6-foot-7 small forward out of Atlanta (Overtime Elite) is a dangerous athlete along with being a disruptive defender. He is viewed as one of the most rapidly improving players in the 2024 class as well.

He is averaging a solid 17.1 points and 6.4 rebounds over the AAU season so far. His best game over the weekend was on Sunday where he had a great outing with 27 points, 8 rebounds and an assist in a win against Drive Nation.

The Atlanta native plays for the same team (NH Lighting) as 2025 offeree, Maleek Thomas and have held an impressive 7-1 record over the first two sessions.

Keep an eye out for Howard and definitely look for him to be high on Dan Hurley’s board as the season progresses.

The 6-4 guard was very consistent over the weekend. Averaging 14 points and 5.25 rebounds over the second weekend, Thomas was a big part of his NH Lightning’s success along with Jahki Howard.

His best game of the weekend came on Saturday against Houston Hoops, where he had 19 points, 7 rebounds and 2 steals to help propel his unit to victory.

Thomas is averaging 14.3, 4.6, and 1.6 assists for the season. As a young guard, he will only improve with age. He will continue to be a player to watch in the coming years.

The number two player in the nation for the class of 2025 once again proved to be nothing short of amazing in Phoenix this weekend.

Flagg continued to post monstrous stat-lines, averaging 26 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists for week two.

With those outstanding numbers, he had many incredible games, but his best had to have been against JL3 on Saturday where he dropped 34, 15 and 3 to secure the win for Maine United.

He has been the talk of the tournament so far and shows absolutely no signs of slowing down.

Sanon was another player with a very good outing in Phoenix. He averaged 14.3 points in his four games and aided Team Expressions to a 3-1 record.

The 6-foot-5 wing also improved as the tournament progressed. He scored a weekend best 19 points in a win against the Indy Heat and added 2 rebounds and a steal.

He has averaged a nice 13.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 1.6 assists over the first two sessions.

Expect Sanon to stay on the Huskies recruiting board.
