Campbell ruled ineligible

Junior defensive end Marcus Campbell, projected to start this season, has been ruled ineligible for the fall due to academic issues.
UConn announced Saturday that Campbell, who had 10 tackles and two sacks as a reserve in 2008, will join redshirt freshman Brian Parker on the sidelines this fall. Parker, who made strides toward becoming a regular in the wide receiver rotation during spring camp, will be enrolled at school but will not play.

The newspaper also reported that two incoming freshmen – Mike Osiecki and Leon Kinnard – will not enroll in school until the summer until they recover from injury and that reserve running back Nathan Sherr will transfer to Massachusetts Maritime Academy. Kinnard, a quarterback from Baltimore (Md.) Loyola, broke his leg in a high school game in the fall, while the injury to Osiecki, a linebacker from Seymour (Conn.), was not disclosed.
The Huskies begin their 2009 season Sept. 5 at Ohio.
