UConn Men's Basketball Recruiting Update

Kevin Ollie and the UConn Huskies added their third verbal commitment for the class of 2017 with Mt. Zion Academy forward Isaiah Whaley's announcement on Thursday after making an official visit. With three scholarships remaining, we have a few candidates in the picture for those openings.

Two UMass transfers have UConn in their final four. Dejon Jarreau and Brison Gresham are reportedly announcing on May 22 between UConn, Oklahoma, Creighton, and Seton Hall and appear to be a package deal. Jarreau is a former 4-star prospect who averaged 9.8 PPG as a freshman and Gresham is a former 3-star PF who averaged 3 points and 3 rebounds per game.

The Huskies are believed to be a contender for Tremont Waters, an in-state point guard ranked 37th in the class of 2017. Another promising visitor arrived in Storrs this past week in Sid Wilson, a prospect ranked no. 58 in the class of 2018 who is making school visits as part of an exploration into reclassifying to 2017.

We've spoken with Wilson twice, once in March and another time in early-May.

There's also a key 2018 prospect who has announced a timetable for his decision, one who would be a major coup for the Huskies.

Cameron Reddish, a 5-star wing ranked 5th in the class of 2018, has UConn on his final eight. In an interview with Storrs Central in December, Reddish spoke highly of Kevin Ollie, describing him as a "father figure" and a "role model."

He recently told Rivals' Corey Evans, “I will probably cut my list down to five after Peach Jam in July and take my five officials at the beginning of the school year and then commit before my high school season begins.”

Despite already being a highly-rated recruit, Reddish has impressed both Evans and Eric Bossi across the latest evaluation period in April. Bossi observed Reddish doing "it all for Team Final while averaging 32 points and 5.5 rebounds. He shot the ball with ease from deep. He set up teammates, he made plays in transition and he was also solid defensively in front of hordes of college coaches."

Evans added that Reddish "can play practically every position on the floor outside of center. The Team Final star has taken his game to the next level this spring showing that he can put his team on his back."
