UConn Makes it Past Chaminade, 93-82

Jalen Adams just missed a triple-double with 25 points, nine rebounds and 11 assists to lead UConn over Chaminade 93-82 Tuesday afternoon in the Maui Jim Maui Invitational at Lahaina Civic Center in Maui, Hi.

The Huskies (2-3) will wrap up their road trip with No. 13 Oregon (3-2) in the fifth-place contest at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday. The Ducks beat Tennessee 69-65 in overtime in the other consolation game.

Senior Rodney Purvis had 23 points with six rebounds and five assists, while Freshman Vance Jackson added 16 points and five boards before fouling out.

Purvis helped the Huskies pull away late with back-to-back 3-pointers to make it 88-77 with about three minutes left. He was 4-for-9 on 3-pointers overall and the Huskies were 8 of 20 as a team. Chaminade made 14 of 32 on 3-pointers.

A short-handed Husky squad did something against Chaminade it has failed to do much of this young season – play with a lead. Even though the teams went into the break tied at 45-45, UConn avoided that dreaded double-digit deficit that has put them in trouble in three losses.

The Huskies were without two of their top players as freshman point guard Alterique Gilbert (left shoulder) and sophomore forward Terry Larrier (left knee) both sat out the game due to injuries.

UConn led for almost 24 minutes in the win and finished with a 39-26 edge in rebounds. Rohndell Goodwin led Chaminade with 20 points.
