UConn lands Washington State transfer DB Armauni Archie

UConn picked up a commitment that will bolster the defensive back group this fall, as Washington State transfer Armauni Archie announced he will be a Husky via social media on Saturday.

Archie is a Vallejo, California native that spent the past three seasons with Washington state totaling just 15 tackles. In the end, he chose the Cougars out of HS over offers from Cal, Nebraska, Nevada, San Jose State, and Wyoming.

Archie was on his official visit this weekend and attended spring practice on Saturday.

“The weekend has been really great. Coach (Jim) Mora and I have been connecting really well, we went to dinner and had a great time. I met an NFL guy talking about my game and things I can do to prepare and get myself ready for the next level. We talked about academics and what not because I will be pursuing my master’s next. I enjoyed my time there, great food, great people and the vibes have been great.”

Archie will be joining a UConn DB room that returns much of the production from last season, but needs to replace a big piece in Tre Wortham. Archie joins another PAC-12 transfer in Zakhari Spears, who transferred in this spring from Washington.

“I just met the guys the other day and then the second day I spoke with them a little more. I’m just connecting with the guys more and more everyday to learn about them and where they are from. It’s been great, I feel like I’m going to love it at UConn.”

Having been around P5 facilities, Archie was impressed with what UConn had to offer.

“UConn compares a lot to the P5 schools. It’s very similar in terms of the coaches, the facilities, the people and what not. These facilities at UConn are slightly better than WSU’s in a way. I feel like I will fit in well.”

Lastly, Archie is excited to become a Husky. As for what fans can expect from him when he arrives, “UConn fans you can expect a man to man corner, press, lots of speed and a physical guy. I’m not afraid to get my nose in there and get dirty. I’m going to put everything I can on the line for you guys and be a tough player.”
