On Monday evening, class of 2023 St. James School (Md.) 3-star guard Jayden Ross announced his commitment to the UConn Men’s Basketball program.

The 6-foot-7 wing is Huskies head coach Dan Hurley’s second commitment of the 2023 class, alongside four-star combo guard Stephon Castle.

THE SCOUTING REPORT...

Ross is a “do it all” wing, with the ability to help out in a number of ways. Offensively, he excels as a slasher and is able to get downhill on the fast break, throwing down highlight-reel dunks and lobs, also possessing a reliable, but not flashy layup package. He’s a solid shooter from the three point line and the midrange when open or lightly contested, but could definitely use some improvement in that department. Ross’ playmaking is decent on the fast break, but it certainly isn’t a hallmark of his game. With the number of talented facilitators on the UConn roster already though, he won’t be tasked with those duties. Ross is also terrific on the offensive glass, producing several second-looks throughout games.

Defensively, his long frame and wingspan enables him to swat shots and pick the passing lane at a high rate. This then leads to opportunities on the fast break, his sweet spot. Ross’ hustle is one of the best aspects of his game, diving for loose balls, something that Hurley appreciates immensely and could earn him playing time.

Although it may be tough for Ross to find minutes early on in his career with the Huskies, his upside as a utility player and small-ball four is immense. He has the athleticism, the hustle and is decent in a lot of areas, but putting on muscle is the biggest thing he has to work on, currently sitting at 180 lbs. He may not be a future NBA star or a one-and-done, but Ross is the type of player who contributes to winning at the collegiate level.

It's also notable that Ross is on the same AAU team, Team Melo, as fellow UConn target Solomon Ball, who is set to announce his top six schools tomorrow.
