Staples (CT) TE Ryan Fitton Commits to UConn

UConn Football cryptically let fans know about its fifth verbal commitment two days ago, adding that it was an in-state recruit. On Monday, Gametime CT's Sean Patrick Bowley confirmed that the commitment came from Ryan Fitton, a tight end from Staples High in Westport.

Fitton, who stands 6-foot-5 and 230 pounds, has been standing out on the field since his sophomore season where he averaged 19 yards per reception and hauled in two touchdowns. He scored four touchdowns while gaining 289 yards on 24 receptions, 13 for first downs, as a junior in a run-first offense. The rising senior also stars on the Staples baseball team as a pitcher.

Fitton becomes the second offensive commitment for the Huskies in the class of 2017, joining quarterback Jordan McAfee, who was the first player to verbally commit to UConn in this cycle.

Fitton, who made a visit to Rentschler Field for this year's spring game, certainly has the frame and athleticism to be a difference-maker in the passing game. At the time of his commitment, he held offers from Army, Buffalo and a host of FCS programs, including Fordham and William & Mary. He also had interest from Boston College, Purdue, Wake Forest, and Temple.
