UConn Football announced several new staff members the other day, so let’s take a quick look at each assistant.
Kashif Moore
Husky fans should remember new WR coach Kashif Moore, as he was one of the most productive receivers in UConn history. Perhaps most famous for his one handed sideline catch for a touchdown in the 2010 PapaJohns.com Birmingham Bowl, Moore has coached at Wesleyan, Cornell, and Albany before joining the UConn staff. The Great Danes struggled in the CAA last season, going 3-8. However, the passing game averaged 275 yards per game along with 25 touchdowns.
Nick Fiacable
Special Teams Analyst Nick Fiacable comes to UConn from DII Slippery Rock. He worked with the RBs, TEs, and special teams during his two seasons at The Rock. He is a graduate of Indiana, where he worked as a recruiting intern, offensive student assistant, and lastly offensive quality control.
Tim Hicks
Tim Hicks joins the UConn staff as an assistant strength and conditioning coach after spending two seasons with Washington State. During his time in Pullman, the Cougars produced two NFL draft picks plus four players signing free agent contracts. Prior to WSU, Hicks was a performance director at EXOS, a sports performance company, where he worked with over 100 NFL, MLB, and NBA athletes. Some of the athletes he has worked with are Julian Edelman, Richie Incognito, Pascal Siakam, and Sloane Stephens.
Justin Cummings-Morrow
Justin Cummings-Morrow is the new Director of Football Operations, coming to Storrs from Iowa State. A former DL at Toledo, Cummings-Morrow joined the Cyclones staff in 2017, being a part of their turnaround in the Big 12.
Chris Satoh
Chris Satoh joins the staff as the Director of Recruiting, specifically focusing on the transfer portal. He has spent the past six seasons at URI, where he started as the video coordinator before being promoted to a defensive assistant position in 2018. Of particular importance to Coach Mora, of course a west coast guy, Satoh coached at La Verne in DIII and La Salle High School in CA.
Nick Green
Nick Green comes to Storrs as the Director of Creative Content for football. He previously was the assistant Director of Creative Services at Stony Brook. Prior to that, he worked at Elmira College as the Director of New Media.
Hunter Webb
Husky fans should also recognize this name. A LB for the past four seasons, Webb graduated this spring and joins the staff as the Director of Recruiting Operations. During his four seasons as a player, Webb totaled 75 tackles, most of them occurring in 2021 where he accumulated 59 tackles, and 2 TFL.
Christian Pace
Christian Pace returns to staff this year with a promotion to Tight Ends coach. Previously an analyst, Pace spent five seasons at Lafayette College before UConn where he was the offensive line coach and had spent two years as the TE/FB coach.
Andrew McClure
Like Pace, Andrew McClure spent last season on staff as an offensive analyst,, moving up to Director of Recruiting, focusing on the offense. He has spent his entire coaching career at UConn as he was student assistant from 2018-2022.
John Marinelli
John Marinelli, the TE coach last season, has taken on more responsibility as the Pass Game Specialist and the Executive Director of Recruiting, focusing on the offense. Marinelli, the son of a HS coaching legend in CT in Lou Marinelli, continues his role as a recruiter for this staff. Under his watch last season saw the rise of TE Justin Joly, who had a knack for making the big catch at the right time, accumulating 18 catches for 250 yards and 2 TDs.
Mike Ryan
Former Husky Mike Ryan joins the staff as a defensive analyst. He has spent the past eight seasons at Maine as a defensive assistant, eventually becoming defensive coordinator under current OC and former Maine HC Nick Charlton. Ryan was a 1st team All-Big East performer in 2010, aiding a run game that led UConn to a Big East title and Fiesta Bowl appearance.
Tyler Loftus
Tyler Loftus joins the staff as an analyst, after spending the past theee seasons at URI as the TE coach. Prior to URI, Loftus spent 2019 as QB coach at Holy Cross, and prior to that spent 2018 at SUNY Morrisville as QB coach. His QB at Morrisville had the 2nd highest passing efficiency and 3rd highest passing TD totals in school history.
In addition to these names above, Special Teams coach Doug Shearer is taking on Recruiting Coordinator duties for the defensive side of the ball. OL coach Gordon Sammis adds Run Game Coordinator to his duties.
