Maryland ATH Brayden Brown Commits to UConn

The new staff at UConn added its third commitment to the class in Fort Hill's Brayden Brown. Ranked the 27th-best prospect in Maryland, the three-star recruit held offers from Coastal Carolina and Army but also had interest from Maryland, West Virginia, Tennessee, and Syracuse.

Brown was previously committed to Coastal Carolina, where current Husky assistant Curome Cox was serving as secondary coach.

The Rivals scouts seemed to hold Brown in high regard, believing his offer list to be a little light, especially after a really good senior season (via Josh Hemholdt):

"Listed as a three-star safety...Brown has been the most electric as a senior, averaging better than 15 yards per carry and more than 20 yards per reception. His versatility and performance this season could make him a candidate for a late scholarship offer from a Power Five program."

It may just be a coincidence, but when Brown announced his commitment on Twitter, he tagged head coach Randy Edsall and multiple defensive assistants, indicating he might be coming to Storrs on that side of the ball. We'll make sure to confirm.

Of the three players added by Randy Edsall's staff to the 2017 haul, two are safeties. Brown joins Darrian Beavers in a defensive backfield group which will also include early enrollee Omar Fortt along with Bebe Olaniyan, Jordan Swann, and Ian Swenson.

The numbers are a bit fuzzy given the change in coaching staffs but our best estimate is that there are currently 12 players in total committed to the Huskies for the class of 2017.
