Randy Edsall and the UConn Huskies are on the board for the class of 2018 with the commitment of in-state prospect Kevon Jones, who plays at East Hartford High, a school less than three miles away from Pratt & Whitney Stadium.

The Hartford Courant's Mike Anthony reported that Jones participated in a program led by Edsall called The Goal Line Project which worked with at-risk teens. UConn Football players served as mentors to the students at East Hartford Middle School and Jones was one of them.

The 6-foot-2, 210-pound two-way star received his offer on Thursday from Edsall and will be playing linebacker at UConn. He also plays quarterback for his high school team, moving from running back.

This is the earliest UConn has had a verbal commitment since Noel Thomas committed to UConn on February 26, 2012 as a member of the class of 2013. The timing may bode well for an improved 2018 recruiting haul as well as better performance with in-state recruits.
