CT LB Dillon Harris Discusses UConn Decision

Randy Edsall and his staff scored a major recruiting win Wednesday as Cheshire Academy’s Dillon Harris announced his commitment to the Huskies. He becomes the second pledge in the class of 2018.

A 6-foot-1 linebacker, Harris is rated as a consensus three-star prospect and held offers from Michigan, Maryland, Syracuse, Rutgers, Boston College and more. The Bloomfield, Conn. native chose UConn because he saw an opportunity to build something special at his home-state school.

“You know, this is bigger than me,” he said. “Being able to impact my community in a positive way is such a blessing. I am the first in my family to make it to this step. My family always believed I was the kid to go, so for them to be able to watch me is big.”

Harris also has a great belief in Edsall and the coaching staff he has installed.

“I have a great relationship with the entire staff,” he said. “I feel we can do something special for UConn and turn this thing around.”

Tight ends coach Corey Edsall and linebackers coach Jon Wholley led the charge in his recruitment. Harris made a visit to Storrs on Saturday along with Kevon Jones, the Huskies’ first class of 2018 commitment. They attended linebacker group meetings, took in a practice, and met some other future teammates in the player’s lounge.

Though he just made a visit, Harris plans on making a return soon.

“I'll be back at UConn for their spring game on the 21st,” he shared.

Another responsibility Harris will have, as the second member of the recruiting class, is doing his best to attract more great players to the program.

“I'll tell them that it's definitely a great place to be,” he said. “And to be surrounded by this staff is like no other.”
