2023 OL Toriyan Johnson Details his Commitment to UConn

A busy weekend in Storrs resulted in several commitments, one of them being from Proctor Academy's (NH) Toriyan Johnson.

Johnson, a 6'8 320 OL, chose the Huskies over offers from Maine, and Robert Morris, plus interest from Pitt. A teammate of fellow commit Cleto Chol, Johnson will come to Storrs as a building block for future offensive lines.

Now he was first being recruited by the previous staff, only making a visit once in 2021 for camp. Once HC Jim Mora took over, new OC Nick Charlton reached out and visited Proctor Academy. According to Johnson, UConn has shown the most love.

"I chose UConn because from the jump, they have showed nothing but love and expressed what they could help me become and help me to possibly become a future draft pick. Another huge reason I picked UConn was the coaching staff. They all have the same mindset and vision of what this program could be and I would love to be apart of the revolution."

The opportunity to continue playing with current teammate Chol was another reason Johnson committed. "Cleto is like a brother to me and we’ve talked about going to the same college. After our visit, we both just fell in love with the school and what it has to offer us."

If there were any doubts that UConn was the right place, those were put to rest during his official visit. "My official Visit was amazing, they showed me and my family a lot of love and I really loved the energy that I would feel when ever we were all together."

"I talked to other players, and they said that they loved the new coaching staff and that there is a huge difference in the energy they bring to the team. I talked about the upcoming schedules and they were pretty happy about this upcoming season and ready to show people what UConn is about."

Speaking of the schedule, Johnson is excited for the variety of teams UConn will be playing. "I think their schedule is great because they get to play on a national stage and get to play against other great competition. I’m really looking forward to all the Northeast schools game this year such as Syracuse, BC, and UMass. I’m also excited for the Michigan game. In the future I’m most pumped for the Ohio State game."

Ahead of his arrival in Storrs, Johnson had something to say to UConn fans. "Something I’d like to say to Husky Nation is that I’m here to join the revolution and we’re in this together. I’m really excited to become a Husky!"
