Doron Scheffer and Nadav Henefeld are the two most prominent Israeli-born players in UConn basketball history. Today, for the first time in over a decade, the Huskies added Yarin Hasson, a 6’9’’ forward from Israel who could follow in their footsteps.
Hasson was previously committed to the University of Denver, but decommitted a little over a week ago. Wednesday, he announced his commitment to UConn as their 12th scholarship player.
SCOUTING REPORT...
The Gan Yavne native is still only 17 and has plenty of time to grow before he needs to make an impact in Storrs. He’s a raw talent and has potential to make an impact all over the floor, but with the difference in competition over in Israel, it’s tough to predict how his skills will transfer. He can dunk over smaller defenders and hit the three, but needs to build strength before he can touch the floor as a Husky.
He played high school basketball for Gimnasia Realit in Rishon Le-Zion and the U18 Israeli National Team, where he showed flashes, but will need time to tune up his game.
STORRS IMPACT...
Barring injuries to the Huskies’ frontcourt though, there aren’t too many minutes left to go around. With Adama Sanogo, Alex Karaban, Samson Johnson, Richie Springs and Donovan Clingan presumably ahead of Hasson, it might be wise to redshirt this year and bulk up for the 2023-24.
