UConn Adds Miami Transfer Courtel Jenkins

The UConn Huskies have added to their defensive line depth for the upcoming season by recruiting Courtel Jenkins to join the squad. Jenkins was a three-star prospect out of the class of 2014 who signed with the Miami Hurricanes, where he played for three years before being dismissed for a violation of team rules in February of 2017.

At the moment it is unclear whether the New Jersey native will be eligible immediately or have to sit out a year.

Jenkins notched 54 tackles and 2.5 sacks over his three years, started 7 games as a sophomore and had 7.5 TFL over the past two seasons. However, he had also been in trouble multiple times.

He was sent home from the 2015 Sun Bowl for academic reasons and was suspended for a game in 2016 due to "lack of discipline," as he had committed three personal fouls in the season. It is unknown if any individual incident led to his dismissal.

The Huskies' interior line depth has worn thin following the graduation of Julian Campenni after 2015 and Mikal Myers following the 2016 season. If eligible immediately, Jenkins' primary competition for playing time at nose tackle will be redshirt sophomore Kevin Murphy.
