Two Commitment Day for UConn Football

Despite a slow start, UConn Football recruiting has started picking up as of late. Bob Diaco and his staff earned four commitments in two days last week and on Monday they gained pledges from two more prospects in the class of 2017.

The first came from Jordan Swann, a speedy prospect from Baltimore who was recruited to play either side of the ball. He will be a cornerback at UConn, which he chose over offers from Temple, Kent State, and FCS schools Delaware and Central Connecticut State. The 5-foot-10 athlete also had interest from a number of ACC schools, making visits to Syracuse, UNC, and North Carolina State.

Swann grabbed ten interceptions in his senior year for St. Frances High in Maryland, a school with four 2017 players currently committed to FBS schools. The Panthers have sent at least a couple of players to major schools across the past few years. This year, they went undefeated in their MIAA slate on their way to a No. 1 overall state ranking and an A Conference championship.

Swann also recently participated in the Crab Bowl, a game pitting a Maryland all-star team against a side with the best players from Washington D.C., grabbing an interception in the showcase.

Later in the day another prospect from Maryland, Stanley Hubbard III, announced his verbal commitment to UConn via Twitter. He will be a guard for the Huskies, becoming the third offensive line commit in the class of 2017. Hubbard plays for another local power, St. John's College High in Washington D.C., and holds offers from 10 other FBS schools, including all three service academies, Marshall, Nevada, Ohio, Old Dominion, and Temple.

UConn has signed three players from the DMV area in the class of 2015 (LB William Richardson, Chris Lee) and 2016 (QB Donovan Williams) and now has four verbals in Swann, Hubbard, DB Bebe Olaniyan, and OL James Tunstall. We spoke with Hubbard in June after he first got his offer from the Huskies. He also was a visitor in Storrs last weekend when the staff hosted over a dozen prospects.

UConn's class of 2017 now sits at 13 commits, with eight offensive players and five defenders.
