Stringer receives offer, planning visit

Defensive back Omari Stringer of Crete (Ill.) Crete Monee has had a very successful spring, reeling in a number of new offers. One of these came earlier this week from UConn, who is eager to have the versatile defender on campus.
Stringer, who has been getting recruited by Coach Reardon, has been in touch with the staff for a few months now.

"They've been recruiting me since January," said Stringer. "I think Coach Reardon is a great guy. I feel he's a great mentor who can bring me from a boy to a man."
There were a number or reasons that UConn decided to offer Stringer, who is 6-foot-4 and 210 pounds.
"I'm versatile," said Stringer. "I fit multiple positions, I'm long, physical, run well, and I'm a team player with a high football IQ. I also tested well with weight lifting."
While Stringer is listed as a safety, he realizes that his future position is likely still up in the air.
"Schools don't know what I'll grow into," he said.
Since his recruitment with UConn has already lasted a couple of months, Stringer has had the opportunity to do some research into the Huskies.
"They have a great history and they play good competition," he said. "They're a school on the rise. It's a school that I'm taking a visit to for sure in June."
Stringer, who hopes to major in either criminal justice or sports marketing, also has offers from Minnesota, Missouri, New Mexico, Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan, Miami-Ohio, Northern Illinois, Toledo, Western Michigan and Illinois State.
"Recruiting is just moving fast," he said. "Having these offers is a relief, but I feel like I have to work way harder. It's good to know I'm going to college for free, but every day I have to work harder to be a good leader. I'm going to play a game for the next four to five years of my life for free. It doesn't get any better."
Stringer is not planning to attend any camps, but will take a number of visits in June and July.
"June 1st to Bowling Green, then I'm visiting UConn, Syracuse, Indiana, Wisconsin and Michigan State all this summer," said Stringer, who mentioned that the Hoosiers and Badgers may be close to offering, as well as Kansas, Oregon and Wyoming.
UConnReport.com will continue to stay in touch with Stringer to see when he makes his way to Storrs.
