UConn head coach Jim Calhoun admitted as well, watching Price grow not only into a solid basketball player but also a great person in the past six months.
The point guard was rewarded for his efforts Monday morning with a unanimous selection to all-Big East first team, joining forward Jeff Adrien on the list of 11 players compiled by the conference's coaches.
Price, who averaged 14.7 points and six assists per game this season, led the Huskies to a complete turnaround and the No. 4 seed in the conference tournament, which begins Wednesday at Madison Square Garden in New York. Adrien edged out Price with a team-leading 14.8 points per game and added 9.1 rebounds per game and was named to the first team after being selected to the second team last season.
The only other UConn player to be honored by the conference was Hasheem Thabeet, who was named to the all-Big East second team. Thabeet averaged 10.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and 4.7 blocks per game this season.
Georgetown forward Roy Hibbert, Notre Dame forward Luke Harangody and Louisville center David Padgett were also named unanimous selections to the all-Big East first team. Joining them are Cincinnati guard Deonta Vaughn, Notre Dame guard Kyle McAlarney, Pittsburgh forward Sam Young, Seton Hall forward Brian Laing, USF center Kentrell Gransberry and West Virginia forward Joe Alexander.
In addition to Thabeet, Georgetown's Jonathan Wallace, DePaul's Draelon Burns, Louisville's Terrence Williams, Marquette's Lazar Hayward, Dominic James and Jerel McNeal, Syracuse's Donte Greene and Paul Harris and Villanova's Scottie Reynolds were all named to the second team.
The conference will announce the Player of the Year award and other individual honors Tuesday night at the annual banquet.
The Huskies begin play in the Big East tournament Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m., when they play the winner of the No. 5 West Virginia/No. 12 Providence game.
