After recently stating that he would likely wait until December to make a final decision, cornerback Justice Pettus-Dixon quickly changed his mind yesterday and committed to UConn. UConnReport.com spoke with Pettus-Dixon about the timing of his decision.
"I'm just really excited about being a Husky," said Pettus-Dixon, who is 5-foot-11 and 182 pounds. "We are going to be a strong, upcoming program."
As mentioned above, earlier this week Pettus-Dixon had stated that he would like to take some additional visits before making a decision, so why the sudden change of plan?
"I just felt that it was the time," he said.
When sharing his decision with the UConn coaching staff, Pettus-Dixon spoke of their reaction.
"They were very excited about my decision," he said.
Also, as with most recruits, Pettus-Dixon now realizes that he can focus his time and energy on his upcoming senior season.
"It's cool," he said. "It's a little bit off my shoulders now."
Pettus-Dixon also held offers from Boston College, Cincinnati, NC State, Oregon State, Toledo, Marshall, New Mexico, Towson and Delaware, but it is believed that at the end it came down to UConn, Cincinnati and NC State.
The Baltimore-area cornerback earned his offer in late June at a summer camp session. At that time he acknowledged that the staff had not been recruiting him very hard until that point.
UConnReport.com will continue to stay in touch with Pettus-Dixon to see when he makes his way back to campus and to see how his senior season progresses.
