Freeborn excited about future

Connor Freeborn has been one of the more active commitments when it comes to socializing with the rest of the class. So an opportunity to get together with the group this past weekend for an official visit was something that he had been looking forward to for months.
First, Freeborn quickly recapped the entire weekend.

"On Friday we went to the stadium and Coach Disco talked to the recruits and parents," he said. We went to Dave & Busters later that night and spent time with the recruits and most of the team. On Saturday, we watched them train and were given tours of the campus and the Burton Football Complex. Later that night we went to dinner and then spent more time with the team. On Sunday, we had one-onone meetings with Coach Diaco to reflect on the weekend. They did a great job setting up this weekend, and allowed us to spend quality time with our future teammates."
While it was a very busy weekend, a few specific things did stand out to Freeborn.
My favorite part of the weekend was being able to spend time with my teammates," he said. "We talk every day through text, but finally being with all of them was really special. Coach Diaco and his entire staff made us feel like we are already apart of the family. That meant a lot to all of us."
Along with his future teammates, Freeborn's time was spent with the coaching staff.
"It was great. Not only are they great coaches, but they are amazing people. They definitely make you want to play for them," said Freeborn, who was also asked to specifically share his thoughts on Coach Diaco. "Coach Diaco is one of the greatest guys I have ever met. Every time I speak with him I want to strap on the helmet and wear UConn across my chest. He gets everything out of his players, because they all want to succeed not only for themselves, but for Coach Diaco and their teammates. He always brings up that they are a family, and that they would do anything for each other. As a player, being close with your teammates is one of the most important components to be successful."
Did the coaching staff discuss any of their expectations for Freeborn in the near future?
"All they told me was to give them my all and they will put me in a spot to be successful," he said. "They told me to keep training hard and to keep my grades up. I have put on 16 pounds of muscle since football has ended. When Coach Balis sends me a workout routine after I sign, I will most likely put on a lot more."
Freeborn, who is currently at 6-foot-6 and 241 pounds, has the size and versatility to play a few positions.
"They have me right now at outside linebacker, but they said they could move me to tight end if they need me there," he said. "I prefer defense, but whatever gets me on the field quicker I will play."
Hosting Freeborn over the weekend was Alec Bloom.
"He is a great guy," said Freeborn. "I got his number and have been going back and forth with him these past two days. All of the players can't wait for the 2015 class to get to campus."
