Exclusive: Jeremy Lucien commits to UConn, discusses decision

One of the UConn Huskies most recent offers was sent out to Choate Rosemary Hall (CT) cornerback Jeremy Lucien. On Wednesday afternoon, that offer paid off when Lucien made his verbal commitment to the Huskies via Twitter.

Lucien spoke with us here at StorrsCentral before making his commitment public.

“After my family and I researched the school, we discovered that it’s a great academic institution,” Lucien told StorrsCentral. “I researched Coach Edsall, he had an outstanding track record of developing talent and turning around a program. He already did it at UConn once before. I’m excited that he believes that I can help the team get back to winning again. Coach Curome Cox is one of the DB guys, so I’m looking forward to growing under both of those coaches guidance.”

“I’m also slated to be a part of the honors college. That’s really important to me. I’m gonna major in mechanical engineering and I believe that UConn would help me grow as a leader.”

The class of 2018 in-state defensive back recruit called Coach Edsall to inform him Tuesday afternoon to inform him about the commitment.

“Head Coach Edsall was driving when I told him. He said he was about to drive off the road because that was really great news. He said he’s excited to welcome me to the family and he knows that I’ll do great things on and off the field while I’m there,” said Lucien.

Coach Edsall showed up to Choate Rosemary earlier this week to hang out with Lucien and chat a little bit about UConn.

"“We just had a friendly conversation. He asked me a lot about my life here at Choate. He also asked aa little bit about what I think my life would’ve been, had I stayed back at home in Pennsylvania. We also talked about my football career here and some of the teams and players I’ve faced this year," said Lucien.

The 6-foot-2, 180-pound is set to head to Storrs for his first and only official visit this weekend.

“I’m most looking forward to meeting the players and other commits and getting a more in depth view of the campus. I’m also looking forward to going back to the Dairy Barn,” Lucien stated.

Lucien has been committed for less than 24 hours and he’s already recruiting for the Huskies program.

“I’m going to work on recruiting my teammate Michael Monios. He’s a 2019 receiver here with me at Choate Rosemary. He’s easily the best route runner I’ve ever seen, and I’d know because I have to go up against him every day in practice. He’s a slot receiver that’ll make any college better,” said Lucien.
