One of the more intriguing recruiting sagas over the last year in Connecticut has involved three-star quarterback Casey Cochran of Monroe (Conn.) Masuk. The record breaking in-state quarterback has long waited for an offer from UConn and after receiving it on Thursday, he only needed three days to decide that he wanted to be a part of the football program.
"It happened about a half hour ago," said Cochran, who is 6-foot-1 and 205-pounds. "We came up today for an unofficial visit and watched practice. We then talked to Coach Pasqualoni and Coach DeLeone and after talking to them for awhile I committed."
Cochran discussed how the last three days has gone for him and what made him end his recruiting process this afternoon.
"After I got the offer, we sat down as a family and talked about it," said Cochran. "After going to UConn for a camp and going up a few more times, I just had a great feeling after talking to the coaches. I have a great relationship with the coaches. It's also an honor getting an offer from your state school. I see great things for the future of the program."
Cochran found out about his offer on Thursday from his coach, who had been notified by Coach DeLeone. During the course of his recruiting process, Cochran has established a very good relationship with Coach DeLeone.
"He's a great coach," said Cochran. "He has a great background in the NFL and he has been coaching for a long time. He's also very energetic on the field. Getting to know him has been great."
Cochran shared a few more thoughts about committing to his state university.
"It's definitely an honor," said Cochran. "Not many players get to play for their home state. There is more pride involved with playing for your home state. It's a different feeling."
Cochran also discussed his ongoing preparation for his senior season.
"It's going great," said Cochran. "We've done a lot of hard work in the off-season and we're ready as a team. Hopefully we'll be better than last year."
Cochran will look to attend a few more practices this month and will also look to attend as many home games as possible this fall. UConnReport.com will continue to stay in touch with Cochran during the fall to see how his senior season progresses.
