Checking in with Walsh

While a number of already committed recruits will be taking their official visits this weekend at UConn, fullback Matt Walsh of Madison (Conn.) Hand will have to wait for another time. That is because Walsh and his team are still in the midst of a very memorable season.
"I will not be taking my visit this weekend because I will have a state playoff game this Saturday," said Walsh. "I will probably visit in two weekends."

Walsh, 6-foot-1 and 230 pounds, was excited to discuss his senior season in more depth.
"It couldn't be going any better, we're 10-0 right now and #1 in the state," said Walsh. "I'm making a lot of plays on defense and I have about ten touchdowns on offense. I'm only used on offense when we really need yards."
The hard work Walsh put in during the last off-season has definitely paid off for him.
"I've mostly improved my speed and instincts," he said. "I am able to make more plays sideline to sideline, and I have more breakaway speed. On defense I have a better idea of where the ball is going to go pre-snap. I know the offenses better."
During the course of his senior season, Walsh has also been paying close attention to UConn's season.
"Even though their record doesn't show it, they have suffered a lot of toughly fought games," he said. "They also have several big wins that show everyone that we can play with anyone."
Walsh has been staying in touch with Coach George DeLeone since his commitment.
"He is very close with my current head coach, so that helps," he said. "Our relationship has grown a lot over the past few months, and I enjoy being able to talk to him about their season and mine."
