Athlete John Van Allen of Avon (Conn.) Avon Old Farms is already very familiar with the UConn program after taking a couple of visits during the 2012 season. Soon Van Allen will return to campus, as he will one of the attendees at the upcoming junior day.
Recently Van Allen received the good news that he had received his first offer from UMass after attending their junior day.
"Overall I think the junior day went well," said Van Allen. "I got to talk to all the coaches, which seemed like a great group of guys who are looking to build a strong program in the future. The junior day showed all that UMass has to offer academically, which is pretty impressive."
Van Allen, 6-foot-3 and 190-pounds, also attended another recent junior day and has two more lined up.
"I took a visit to Maryland's junior day two weeks ago and I have junior days at UConn on the 25th and Duke the 31st of March," said Van Allen. "I also plan to visit Notre Dame as well."
UConn has been in the picture for Van Allen for quite some time now.
"I'd say that UConn is recruiting me pretty hard," said Van Allen. "The coaches said that they loved my film and hopefully they should be offering pretty soon."
Van Allen has developed an especially strong relationship with one member of the UConn coaching staff.
"Coach Cersosimo has been keeping in contact with me," said Van Allen. "I think he's a great guy who is pretty straight forward and easy going."
During the summer Van Allen is looking into doing several one-day camps, including UConn, Boston College, Rutgers and Syracuse. Meanwhile, he is also working hard to improve his overall game.
"I'm just going to keeping training hard, running, passing, catching and just perfecting my fundamentals," said Van Allen. "Then I want to take everything I learn from camps and combines and apply it to my game."
