Alterique Gilbert earning high praise at Team USA camp

Alterique Gilbert already knows the next stop on his basketball journey is Storrs, Conn., but could the U.S. Olympic team be in his future?
It might be hard to answer that question at this point, but the 5-foot-11 guard sure put on a show last weekend at the team's training facility in Colorado Springs. Gilbert, who ranks 36th in the Class of 2016, was one of the top guards at the USA Basketball Developmental camp.

Eric Bossi, Rival's National Basketball analyst, ranked Gilbert only behind De'Aron Fox, who is fifth in the Class of 2016, following the camp. Fox's list of schools includes Arizona, Kansas, Kentucky, LSU, Louisville and North Carolina.
Bossi wrote that Gilbert "was salty on both ends of the floor" and ran his teams "with confidence, delivered the ball where it needed to be, scored opportunistically and played solid defense."
Alterique Gilbert was a beast tonight on defense. I won't name names, but some other PG's were struggling just to dribble past half court.- Rob Jones (@RobJones__) October 4, 2015
Gilbert, who is a senior at Miller Grove (Georgia) gave his verbal commitment to UConn on July 4. He is one of three future Huskies in the 2016 class, along with 6-9 forward Juwan Durham (Tampa Prep, 27th) and 6-8 Mamadou Diarra (Putnam Science Academy.
Last season Gilbert averaged 18.5 points, 6.2 assists, 5.3 steals and 4.7 rebounds for Miller Grove, which advanced to Class AAAAA state quarterfinals.
Bossi also gave high marks to another UConn target, 6-2 point guard Trevon Duval, who ranks second in the Class of 2017.
