2015 DL commit Kevin Murphy excited for UConn
Pennsylvania defensive tackle Kevin Murphy was the first commitment in Bob Diaco's first full recruiting class. The three-star receruit is also one of the highest-rated prospects in the class, a defensive mauler who made a living in opposing backfields.
We had a chance to catch up with Kevin, who will be moving on-campus in late-June. In the meantime, he knows exactly how he'll be spending his time.
"Lifting, running and spending as much time with family and friends as possible," he told UConn Report. He's also very excited to get to Storrs.
"(There is) no better choice in the country. The facilities, coaches, and academics are second to none. It is truly an amazing opportunity to get ahead in life and become a better person on and off the field."
Murphy had a stellar senior season which saw him earn numerous awards and honors, including Rivals Pennsylvania senior defensive MVP, PA Body Armor DT MVP and a Mini Maxwell award. He was also an all-Chesmont, all-Area and all-state selection. A leader on and off the field, he has also been a captain since his sophomore year.
At UConn, the plan is for Murphy to play nose guard, though he moved around quite a bit in high school. He'd love to demonstrate his versatility as a defender across the line. You'll see that versatility in his highlight reel below.
Though football is important, Murphy clearly has his priorities straight. He defines a successful career at UConn as "giving it all I have every time I set foot on that field at Rentschler, in the practice field, weight room, and classroom. To graduate and get a degree, and win some ball games along the way."
Before he hits campus, he has a message for the fans:
"I want them to know how vital they are to the continued growth of the program. Better days are on the horizon I guarantee it."
