Freeborn checks out a practice

With practices starting a couple of days ago, it gave several commitments in the Class of 2015 an opportunity to make their way to Storrs to see the Huskies in action. One of these was Connor Freeborn, who spoke to UConnReport.com about his time on campus.

"Me and a few of the other commits took a trip up to meet each other and watch the first day of camp," said Freeborn. "It was awesome. The practice was high-tempo and energetic, which made it fun for the players and coaches. It was a great start to a new era of UConn football."

One of the highlights for Freeborn was to meet up with his fellow commits.

"It was great to finally meet them," he said. "We have a group chat with all of the commits and talk every day, but it was good to finally meet some face-to-face."

Aside from meeting some of the other commits, Freeborn also spoke to most of the coaching staff before the practice began.

"They welcomed the commits in, like we were already family and part of the team," he said. "The coaching staff are all great guys and amazing coaches."

When it came to the actual practice, a number of things stood out to Freeborn.

"The practice was very organized so you didn't see much standing around," he said. "They played music in the beginning to hype the players up while warming up. During most of the practice, I stood and watched Coach Brown and the linebackers. He runs many similar drills that my high school does in practice. And the three players that really stood out to me was #2 junior Graham Stewart, who is one of the starting outside linebackers. #85 senior Geremy Davis, who is a stud at the wide receiver position and lastly, #53 sophomore Andreas Knappe. Andreas is the starting right tackle that is 6-foot-8, 300 pounds. One of the biggest guys I have ever seen."

Freeborn, 6-foot-6 and 227 pounds, does not have any additional plans to attend practices, but hopes to make as many games as possible.

In the meantime, he has been busy preparing for his own season.

"Our season doesn't start up until the 15th of September, but we have many lifting and conditioning sessions to prepare us," he said. "Training is going great and I have never been more excited for a season to start up."

Finally, Freeborn explained that an illness set him back a little, but that he is now back at 100%.

"I was sick with mono at the beginning of summer which made me lose 12 pounds," he said. "I have gained it all back and I'm ready for the season."

UConnReport.com will continue to stay in touch with Freeborn to see when he makes his way back to campus and to see how his senior season moves along.
