A tough Reed
Princeton (NJ) Day School small forward Davon Reed's top eight: Cincinnati, Connecticut, Harvard, Louisville, Memphis, Miami (Fla.), Wake Forest and Xavier are still intact, and no one is winning or losing in his recruitment.
He has good relationships with each one of the school's coaching staffs. Reed said the Demon Deacons, Hurricanes and Huskies are recruiting him the hardest.
"This has been a real difficult decision, and whether people know it or not I'm ready to get it off my chest soon enough," Reed said.
The 6-foot-6 and 190-pounder, who is rated by Rivals.com as a four-star recruit and as the nation's No. 84 overall prospect, added it is a possibility he could narrow his list of choices down at the end of the month and make a decision early this fall.
Jeff Bzdelik and Walt Corbean are pursuing him for the Demon Deacons.
"They've been recruiting me for a long time now," Reed said. "I went to visit the school and liked it. I really enjoyed it. I have a really good relationship with them as well."
"I love the campus. It's a beautiful campus. It's nice and close-knit. Everybody was welcoming. It was a family. The coaching staff showed me the best hospitality and they're really good people."
Reed has not decided if he will make a return trip to Wake or not.
While Louisville has not offered the Cardinals continue to stay in the mix as Reed is in regular contact with Rick Pitino. Reed said Pitino told him they will be watching him the rest of the summer.
"[I want to play for a school that gives me] an opportunity to step in and contribute right away; not necessarily scoring, but definitely contributing as soon as possible, developing my body and getting a good education," Reed said.
He added college coaches like his versatility, ability to score and defend.
"No matter what, whether I'm scoring or not I'm going to look to play defense and play hard," Reed said. "My motor never stops."
Reed averages nearly nine points and four rebounds for Team Final on the very competitive Nike EYBL circuit.
