UConn Baseball HC Jim Penders drawing interest from Michigan Wolverines

UConn Baseball head coach Jim Penders has been a part of the Huskies program since he was playing for the team back in 1991-94, not too long after that he rejoined the team as a graduate assistant in 1997 and eventually worked his way up to head coach in 2003. Whenever you hear the words UConn Baseball, Penders name is surely to follow.

Why do we bring all this up? Because it's possible that Penders time with the Huskies could come to an end, as according to a report from Maize & Blue Review's Brandon Justice, Michigan Wolverines Athletic Director Warde Manuel has reached out to Penders about the newly opened baseball coaching job over in Ann Arbor.

Penders and Manuel have an obvious relationship as the two worked together for UConn Athletics from 2012-2016, where Manuel was the Huskies Athletic Director before moving on to Michigan, so there is some familiarity there.

Now the question is what's next? We know that Penders hasn't formally interviewed for the job, but we do know that the two have had a conversation about the opening. This could go a couple of different ways, as Penders could interview for the Wolverines job or possibly sign an extension to offer him more money to remain in Storrs. Only time will tell, but stay tuned on The Uconn Report for the latest!
