July 19, 2013With Connecticut being a state that does not see a great deal of recruiting traffic from other programs, it is always possible for the Huskies to find a hidden gem. That may be the case with defensive tackle Keith Benjamin of Windsor, Conn., who earned an offer from the Huskies after an impressive summer camp.
Benjamin, 6-foot-3 and 270 pounds, has picked up offers this summer from UConn and Central Connecticut State.
"Recruiting is good," he said. "UConn offered me last month after a camp. The camp was great. I liked the coaches and the competition."
The unique part of Benjamin's recruiting process is that he had not received a great deal of interest from the Huskies until his attendance at the summer camp. At the camp, Benjamin clicked with Coach Hughes.
"He was willing to take the time out to notice me and saw that I had potential to be a Husky," he said.
While he has yet to commit to UConn, Benjamin admitted that he has been thinking about it.
"I definitely want to be a Husky and all I ever wanted to do was play college ball," said Benjamin. "Their program is great and the school is good also."
With his senior season quickly approaching, Benjamin has been working on improving his game.
"I'm trying to become more patient and wait for the plays to come to me," said Benjamin, who has run a 4.8 40.
UConnReport.com will continue to check in with Benjamin to see when he decides to end his recruiting process.
