Jeppesen getting a serious look from MSU
One of the top in-state prospects in the state of Michigan for the class of 2013 is offensive line prospect Nate Jeppesen of Portage Central High School. SpartanMag.com caught up with the 6-foot-4, 265-pound prospect and got the details on his early recruitment.
Jeppesen has not gotten as much publicity as some other in-state recruits, but college coaches certainly know about him. SpartanMag.com asked Jeppesen about the schools that have already offered him a scholarship and the ones that are in regular contact with him.
"I have offers from Western Michigan and Central Michigan," he said. "I got those when I attended their camps this summer. I have heard from several Big 10 schools as well as a number of other major league schools. I am getting lots of mail from Big 10 schools, Oregon, Syracuse, Mississippi State. We are making a trip to Nebraska next month."
Jeppesen was at Michigan State University this past weekend for the Wisconsin game. We asked his thoughts about being on campus.
"It was amazing to be in Spartan Stadium for a game with that much energy and excitement," Jeppesen said. "The Spartans are a great team that has the heart and determination to win the Big 10 Championship."
At 6-foot-4, 265-pounds Jeppesen projects as an interior prospect at the next level. By the time he arrives in college he will likely be in the 285-pound range. The fact that he has good feet and the ability to get out and pull is a main reason why the Spartans are seriously looking at him.
Jeppesen talked about his contact with the Michigan State staff and the things he is looking for when it comes to a college.
"I've been talking to Coach Staten. I went to a 1 day camp at Michigan State in June and 4 other college camps this summer. For football, I look at the style of play, tradition and game day atmosphere. For non-football I will consider the academic support and a program that matches my interests."
No doubt the Spartan staff will be looking to get Jeppesen back on campus again this fall as well as have him attend a junior day function this winter. The offensive line class of 2013 in Michigan could be one of the best in recent memory. Players like Steve Elmer, Riley Norman, Cameron Dillard and Jeppesen all have scholarship offers on the table. It is not often that 4 offensive line recruits from Michigan have scholarship offers this early in the process.
SpartanMag.com will be sure to follow-up with Jeppesen in the coming weeks and report the details about his recruitment.
